Everett’s Police/Youth Initiative brings together young people and Providence Police Officers to role-play true life scenarios in order to teach deescalation techniques, develop the social/emotional skills needed for safer interactions between police and young people, and build empathy between the groups. Role play is a focused, productive way to study what happens in a moment of conflict. During Police/Youth Initiative workshops, critical moments of escalation taken from real life experiences are paused and examined. Then, police and youth getting on their feet - playing scenes out to reach more positive outcomes.
